چکیده

We have studied the performance of global 2 tting applied to low-resolution X-ray spectroscopy, focusing on the retrieval of source parameters , with emphasis on the coronal metallicity. The study has been conducted by tting large numbers of simulated spectra with known characteristics , and studying the distribution of the best-t parameters, using the responses of the LECS detector onboard the SAX satellite and of the SIS detector onboard the ASCA satellite. The simulations have been done under the hypothesis that the intrinsic source spectrum can be described by two discrete temperatures. The performance of the tting process has been studied both in the case in which just the global metallicity is left free to vary and in the case in which the abundance of each element is independently left free to vary in the t process.

On coronal abundances derived with the SAX/LECS and ASCA/SIS detectors

We have studied the performance of global 2 fitting of low-resolutionX-ray spectra in retrieving intrinsicsource parameters, with emphasis on the coronal metallicity. The study has been conducted by fitting large numbers of simulated spectra with known characteristics, and studying the distribution of best-fit parameters. We have studied the behavior of the LECS detector on board the SAX satell...

X-ray spectroscopy of the active giant βCeti: the SAX LECS view

We present an X-ray observation of the active giant β Cet, performedwith the LowEnergy Concentrator Spectrometer (LECS) on-board the SAX satellite. The resulting X-ray spectrum is well fit by an optically-thin plasma model with two discrete temperatures, and the inferred coronal metallicity is compatible both with the abundances derived from a re-analysis of the ASCA SIS spectrum of the same ob...

X-Ray Flux Decrease of the Accretion-Powered Millisecond Pulsar SAX J1808.4–3658 in Quiescence detected by ASCA

The accretion-powered millisecond X-ray pulsar, SAX J1808.4–3658, was observed in quiescence with ASCA in September 1999. We detected a dim X-ray source in the SIS data at the position consistent to SAX J1808.4–3658. The source count rate was (1.1 ± 0.4)× 10 cts s (0.5–5 keV) for a single SIS, which corresponds to (3 ± 1) × 10 ergs s cm if a power law energy spectrum of photon index 2 with low-...

A SAX / LECS X - ray observation of the active binary Capella

We present a SAX/LECS X-ray observation of the active binary Capella, the first coronal source observed in the SAX Guest Investigator program. The analysis of this observation, performed using the mekal plasma emission code, shows that the LECS spectrum is well fit by a two-component optically-thin plasma model. A differential emission measure (DEM) obtained by direct inversion of the X-ray spe...

A BeppoSAX/LECS X-ray observation of α Centauri

We present the X-ray spectrum of the nearby binary α Cen AB (G2V + K1V) that has been obtained from observations with the low-energy concentrator (LECS) onboard the BeppoSAX X-ray astronomy satellite. SAX combines, in contrast to previous satellites, simultaneous coverage of the 0.1-10 keV energy range with sufficient spectral resolution to determine emission measure distributions and elemental...
